How to set up SoEasy to use a Linux Server to manage the files

You can easily setup SoEasy's data files onto a Linux Server.

  1. Designate one of your Windows based PC's as a Server. It won't actually be used for storing the files but it will be used to manage the frequent updates that we release
  2. Install the Multi User version of SoEasy to it by following the instructions here http://www.learn.soeasyaccounting.com/installset-up/multi-user
  3. Make sure you download the update file when it is offered to you
  4. Open the installation and go into the companies data - Watch video on setting up the data file: http://www.learn.soeasyaccounting.com/video/q01/q01.htm (This will build the data files)
  5. Close SoEasy
  6. From the PC you have installed SoEasy to, open the shared directory on the Linux Server
  7. Create the following directories ... SOEASY\DATA and make sure they are fully shared
  8. Map the drive to the Linux SOEASY directory as S (or other if S is not available)
  9. Open your file browser. Locate the SOEASY directory and click through to:
    SOEASY/DATA
  10. Copy the C001 directory and it's contents to the S drive
  11. Open SoEasy on the local PC and at The Front Company Menu http://www.learn.soeasyaccounting.com/video/q02/q02.htm
Go to the "Add/Edit Company" screen and select your company name with your mouse
  12. Change the Data Files Directory to S:\DATA\C001 and select OK

This should complete the installation for the designated "Server/Workstation"

To install to other workstations follow the Workstation Installation instructions here:  http://www.learn.soeasyaccounting.com/installset-up/multi-user

Issues

At this moment you will need to download the upadates on each workstation. However a modification is in progress that will allow the designated server to manage the update files.
This modification will be complete by Wednesday the 23 September 2009 and we will have the instructions detailed here on how to set it up.
